PT-BR and PT-PT are not the same — both work
Brazilian Portuguese dominates the training data (as it dominates the internet), so PT-BR — from carioca to paulista to northeastern accents — sits in the model's top accuracy tier. European Portuguese transcribes well too, but its vowel reduction (swallowed unstressed vowels) makes it measurably harder than PT-BR; expect slightly more edits for fast Lisbon speech.
Angolan and Mozambican Portuguese pattern close to the European variant and transcribe reliably in formal registers. The transcript follows the speaker's variant: você/tu usage, gerúndio vs a + infinitive, and vocabulary (trem vs comboio) come out as spoken.
Orthography under the Acordo Ortográfico
Output uses current post-agreement spelling with full diacritics — ã, õ, ç, á, â, é, ê, í, ó, ô, ú — and Portuguese punctuation. Names and English loanwords common in Brazilian business speech are transcribed inline as-is.

Either — the language is pinned to Portuguese, not to a variant, and the model identifies the variant from the audio itself. PT-BR is the model's stronger side by data volume; PT-PT is solid but its heavy vowel reduction costs a little accuracy on fast informal speech.
How accurate is Portuguese transcription?
Brazilian Portuguese is top-tier — comparable to Spanish, within a couple of points of English on clear audio. European Portuguese runs slightly behind on casual speech because unstressed vowels often disappear entirely; broadcast PT-PT is excellent.
Will accents and ç be written correctly?
